LoPresti ParkLoPresti Park, is a newly refurbished, 4-acre waterfront park in the Maverick Square area. The opening of the Maverick House Hotel in 1835 marked the start of commercial development of East Boston. The hotel structure dominated Maverick Square and was named for Samuel Maverick, one of the original settlers of the area now called East Boston. The Maverick House serviced travelers on the Eastern Railroad line and it was a popular place with students.

The Maverick House was destroyed by fire and rebuilt several times. Noah Sturtevant led the final rebuild, and in 1857 it was ranked as one of the largest and finest hotels of the time. It was a popular summer resort and a favorite resting spot for those who traveled on the Cunard steamship lines. In its spot today rests the East Boston Neighborhood Community Heath Center. Maverick House Tavern will be closed for 30 to 60 days while we refresh and rebrand our concept. Located minutes from the MBTA blue line, 1 stop to downtown Boston, all the basic necessities and more are in walking distance from our sober home — a great place to get on your feet and move forward with a completely sober future. The nearby Maverick public housing project – once a source of urban blight that gave the area the reputation as the most crime-ridden in the neighborhood – has been redeveloped by Trinity Financial and the East Boston Community Development Corporation.
